Weihenstephan collaborated with the Californian craft beer pioneers from Sierra Nevada in 2018, creating the first Braupakt ever. Now, almost six years later, this collab gets a sequel: with a Blonde Ale, brewed in Weihenstephan.What do the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan and St. Bernardus have in common? The faces of both breweries are monks - and what could be better than having the two historical figures Korbinian and Bernardus toast each other? Not only symbolically through the creation of the Braupakt, but also literally on the label. It shows the two monks having a first sip of the Blonde Ale. The two breweries have been friends for a long time - after all, St. Bernardus is the official importer of Weihenstephaner beers in Belgium.The idea behind this unique collaboration was to brew a filtered, strong, top-fermented beer. This wonderful specialty is the combination of two brewing philosophies - this seems crystal-clear when you take a look at the raw materials: Hops from Belgium, from the immediate area around St. Bernardus, Weihenstephan yeast, Bavarian malt - and water from Freising. The beer is of course brewed in accordance with the Purity Law of 1516. Spicy, with a characteristic yeast note, fruity and strong with 6.5% alcohol: Braupakt 2024 flatters the palate with these characteristics.The matching glass gives the Collab a further Belgian touch: the bulbous shape allows the diverse aromas of the brewing pact to fully unfold. The beer makes a particularly elegant and stylish impression in this glass with its strong, deep golden color.Marcus Englet, Head of Export of the Weihenstephan brewery, is delighted: "In St. Bernardus, we have found a perfect partner for the second edition of the Braupakt. A brewery that, like us, puts the quality of its beers above all else and has thrown itself into this project with great attention to detail. With Braupakt 2024, we have succeeded in creating a collaboration in a class of its own: a beer based on a Belgian style that was created not only with ingredients from both countries, but also with the great expertise of two brewing philosophies."Marco Passarella, Sales Manager at St. Bernardus, can only agree: "We really put an emphasis on quality over quantity. Both of us were convinced that we should not settle for a beer which we are not 110 percent satisfied with. But we succeeded in creating a wonderful brew that is up there with the best beers. This project was unknown territory for us, this is our first collaboration ever. But we absolutely loved it – that is why we are going to brew another beer with Weihenstephan in 2025, but this time in St. Bernardus."Braupakt 2024 will be available in several countries, starting in March. The Blonde Ale will be bottled in 0.33l-longneck-bottles and sold in six-packs, 24x0.33l crates as well as 30l- and 50l-kegs.

For 20 years now, the best beers have been awarded at the European Beer Star. In a blind tasting, 150 jury members judged the beers exclusively in terms of sensory aspects: appearance, aroma and taste. 2356 beers were entered in 74 different categories in 2023.This huge competition is why the moment, when the winners were announced, was filled with great joy: The Weihenstephan representatives in Nuremberg were already jubilant when the Hefeweißbier won the bronze medal - but the celebrations really started with the Weizenbock Vitus! In its category, the beer specialty was named Europe's best. Head Brewmaster Tobias Zollo accepted these honors on stage in Nuremberg.The Weizenbock Vitus, known and celebrated for its intense notes of banana and cloves, its high drinkability despite 7.7 percent ABV and its noble appearance in the glass, finally won Gold again after several consecutive silver medals. At the European Beer Star blind tastings in September, the jury's opinion was clear - this has to be Europe's best Weizenbock.&nbsp;Weihenstephan's Director Prof. Dr. Josef Schrädler says: "Since the medals at the European Beer Star are awarded according to the Olympic principle - exactly one gold, silver, and bronze medal per category – these awards are particularly valuable. We are of course delighted that not only the Hefeweißbier but also its big brother, the Vitus, have won medals."Tobias Zollo added, "You can smell the banana notes of our Vitus in our wheat beer cellar from a distance. This intense aroma is one of the reasons why the Weizenbock is so well received around the world. Our brewers know exactly what they are doing. We are very proud of this success!"

The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan is donating 2,000 euros this year to the "Menschen in Not" campaign, organized by the local newspaper Freisinger Tagblatt. Why? The answer is quite simple: "The district of Freising and the people in the region are very important to us," says our director, Prof. Dr. Josef Schrädler. "We are glad that we can contribute to making the people's lives a little easier."The symbolic cheque for 2,000 Euros was accepted by Editorial Director Manuel Eser. Weihenstephan donates 2000 Euros to charity

After the great success at the World Beer Awards in late August, when the crystal wheat beer was named the best crystal worldwide, the honors continued seamlessly.&nbsp;Weihenstephan wheat beers are excellent - this was confirmed by the blind tastings at the International Beer Challenge 2023. Not only did the Hefeweißbier bring home the bronze medal, but three other representatives were honored with the golden one: the Weizenbock Vitus, the Hefeweißbier Dunkel, and – who else after the successes of recent years - the Kristallweissbier! The quintet is completed by the silver medal of the Original Helles.Fine notes of banana - more intense in the Vitus, more subtle in the Kristallweissbier, a bit riper in the Hefeweissbier Dunkel -, a pleasant recency of the beers and strong colors in the glass ensured enthusiasm among the jury. The brewery's wheat beer range convinced the British. And the Original Helles also met the tastes: spicy, refreshing, with a lot of character - a perfect beer that fits just fine to a snack.Prof. Dr. Josef Schrädler, Director of the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, was delighted: "Shortly after our great success at the World Beer Awards, we won even more medals - we are thrilled that our beer is also so well received in Great Britain! This is a further confirmation of our high quality and the unique taste of our beers."Head Brewmaster Tobias Zollo agreed: "Our wheat beers are more than beers, they are experiences. Precious metal at the IBC: Weihenstephan Brewery awarded five medals

At the beginning of August, cheers and celebrations were in order: Five beers were awarded medals at the World Beer Awards. Bronze went to the Hefeweißbier Dunkel and the Pilsner, silver to the Weihenstephaner Helle - but the highest honors went to two other beers.The Kristallweißbier and the Weizenbock Vitus not only received the gold medal, but were also named the best beers of their style in Germany. The former impressed with its pleasant tartness, fine banana notes, rounded off with a hint of citrus. The Weizenbock Vitus convinced the judges with its strong aromas of banana and clove, its high drinkability despite 7.7 percent alcohol and its rounded taste.

The victory at the German level additionally meant that both beers competed for the title of the world's best beer in their respective categories. And here, the Kristallweissbier prevailed over the competition once again - and can now officially call itself the world's best Kristallweissbier for the second consecutive year!Prof. Dr. Josef Schrädler, Director of the brewery: "This is incredible! For the second time in a row, our Kristallweissbier has been named the world's best beer of its style. An incredible success that speaks for the immense quality of our beers, for which our employees give everything every day. We still can't believe that we're actually at the summit of such top-class competition."Head Brewmaster Tobias Zollo added: "These competitions are always about what is most important to beer drinkers – the taste. And the fact that Kristallweissbier is once again taking home the title of "World's Best" is an absolute dream and a confirmation. World’s Best Kristal: Highest honors for Weihenstephaner beers

This map shows that we in Germany are slightly above average - measured in U.S. dollars and pint-sized beers. finder.com finds that the average price in Germany is $3.84, while the global average is $3.53. We'll show you where the extremes are!The most expensive beer locations in the world are quite different - and you have to travel far from Weihenstephan to pay these prices. Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is the most expensive, sitting at $11.60, as is Doha (Qatar) at $11.49. Reykjavik in Iceland follows with some distance (10.76 dollars) and Oslo in Norway with "only" 9.96 dollars.And who are our direct "beer price neighbors"? In the Northern Mariana Islands, you pay $3.92 per half-pint, in Brunei $3.77 and in Nepal $3.75. Our real neighbors fare as follows: In Austria, you're allowed to shell out an average of $4.39, in Switzerland as much as $7.83, but in the Czech Republic it's only $1.61. We'll be on our way...But if you want to spend less money on beer, the Czech Republic is not the only place to do so. Beer prices around the world - from cheapest to most expensive

First it rained, then the sun came out - the weather at the Festbier tasting was a rollercoaster of emotions. But at 7 p.m. on the dot, a little help from above (maybe?) made the sun shine for the 100 or so guests who had come to the Liebesinsel in Abensberg. The rain stopped - and the Festbier was tapped! After greetings from politicians and the Weihenstephan brewery, the candidates for the Dirndl Queen election were introduced. The official part was then over - and people were able to enjoy themselves with free beer under a clear sky.

Artificial intelligence in brewing and beverage technology - a field full of possibilities and optimization potential: At the first lecture in the Talk@TheBrewery series, organized by the Research Center Weihenstephan of Technical University Munich, it became clear right away that AI plays a weighty role not only in the future, but also in the present.Tools such as ChatGPT have recently brought the topic to the attention of a wider audience, but in the fields of research it has been a well-known one for decades. As Prof. Dr. Thomas Schlechter, guest speaker at Weihenstephan and Professor of Automotive Mechatronics at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, pointed out, there were studies on the topic of electronic nose - a technical system for detecting and measuring odors - as early as 30 years ago. In a sensory-heavy environment like brewing, such advances are naturally interesting. Prof. Dr. Schlechter showed how artificial intelligences can already detect defects in beers with a reliability of over 90 percent - in real time, not after lengthy analyses. Through immediate feedback processes, the AIs make recommendations that can be accepted and subsequently implemented by authorized personnel - such as brewmasters.The brewing process is an exciting area in this matter anyway: Some breweries have already acquired a taste for it in the truest sense of the word. Recipe analyses with corresponding recommendations, market observation and evaluation, everything for the perfect beer - but whether the taste fits the expectations is always up to the consumers.Prof. Dr. Schlechter's talk drew a picture of the potential applications of AI in brewing and beverage technology. The next Talk@TheBrewery on August 17 at 4 p.m., again at the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, will focus on the American craft beer scene. The title of this talk is: “Challenges ahead in the USA craft brewing industry”. The 19th Weihenstephaner Bergfest on August 5 has a lot in store for you: The best beer, tasty delicacies and the finest entertainment. The many employees of the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan have made sure of that.First things first: the beer price! And here we remain unbeatably cheap - the Maß Bier costs 6 euros, half a liter 3 euros. Cheers! And if you are more into the drinks without alcohol: The non-alcoholic beverages such as lemonade, apple spritzer, Spezi and water are available for 2 euros.Important information: You can only pay in cash - please be aware.We will also spoil you with culinary delights: Crunchy Piller-Brezn, rotisserie chicken, spare ribs and pork knuckle from Hertl, from Schuhbauer we have spinach and vinegar dumplings, burgers, grilled sausages in a bun, fries as well as Aperol and Hugo. There will be three guided tastings during the day for only five euros contribution towards expenses. Tickets are available at the merchandise store!
